How to Repair: Error Occurred While Windows was Synchronizing

Windows is a tricky operating system to repair, but many of the symptoms of a Windows error can be solved with a simple reboot. However, some errors are more difficult to fix and require more in-depth troubleshooting.

Windows 8 is a very difficult operating system to troubleshoot for anyone not familiar with computers. I’ve been using this particular Windows computer for close to 10 years, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve given up on it and thrown it away because of errors. You can’t even find this blog if you search for “Error” on the Windows 8 App Store.

Windows provides an automatic time synchronization feature that allows users to automatically synchronize the time by connecting to an NTP server through the Windows menu. However, users may receive a message indicating that an error occurred during Windows synchronization.

This problem often occurs with some NTP servers, including time.windows.com and time.nist.gov. And the reasons for this problem can be many. Fortunately, you can easily solve this problem with the following methods.

What caused an error that occurred during Windows synchronization?

Windows Time Server is in limbo: Usually this error occurs because the time server is stuck in a state between open and closed (usually called a limbo state). If this script applies, you can solve the problem by changing the startup state on the service screen to automatic and restarting the service.

The time server is not available: Another common cause of this problem is the unavailability of the time server you are trying to contact due to scheduled maintenance or unexpected downtime. In that case, you can bypass the problem by using a different server.

W32 is not registered: If W32Time is not registered in your Windows installation, it is probably the cause of this error message. In this case, you can easily solve the problem with a series of commands to stop, de-register and re-register the service.

Router/Modem incompatibility : Although rare, a router or modem can also cause this particular problem. If this scenario applies, you can solve the problem by rebooting or resetting the associated network.

Defective third-party firewall : An overly secure third-party firewall can also cause this error message. False positive messages can cause your computer to stop communicating with the time server. In this case, the problem can be solved by removing the third-party package that caused the problem.

Defective CMOS battery : If the problem occurs again after you fix it, it’s likely that your system can’t remember the changes you made between system starts due to a faulty battery. In this case, the problem can be solved by opening the case and replacing the defective CMOS battery on the motherboard.

The update interval is too long: It appears that this problem can also occur because the default update interval for communicating with the time server is not sufficient. In this case, the problem can be solved with some changes in the registry.
